What if a dragons treasure wasn’t always the piles of gold you see in the movies or in books? What if it was something more private and personal.Since Sorrowlynns birth she has lived up to her name, but not exactly by choice, her destiny has been stated that she will die by her own hand. Others in the kingdom have referred to her as Suicide Sorrow. She has resolved herself to death in order to get out of an arranged marriage based on a history of the two Kingdoms.
Golmarr is the Prince that falls in love with Sorrow, and wants to be the one to marry her, but Sorrow binds herself to die by the dragon, over marriage. He chooses to follow her into the dragon’s lair.
This is where the book gets fun. I wanted to throttle Sorrow for being an idiot, but if she chose to marry it wouldn’t be much of a book. Sorrow is so helpless, due to her family keeping her locked in her chambers her whole life, she can’t really do much for herself. Golmarr comes across at the Knight in Shining Armor at this point. Sorrow was so focused on what was proper for a Princess over trying to survive. Her idea for surviving was a hunting knife and a bottle of Stickbane.
After fighting baby dragons and hiding from the fire dragon in the lair, they so end up coming across Zhun (the dragon).
After a bit of a fight, Golmarr is gravely injured, and Zhun turns on Sorrow, she has her vial of Stickbane in hand. Girl loses hand, dragon digests Stickbane, dragon is getting weaker and weaker, and the girl somehow gets the strength to kill the dragon. End of story right? WRONG! There is a bright blinding flash of light that knocks Sorrow out for a few minutes. When she wakes she feels different, she has knowledge she never had before (Think Neo from the Matrix “I know Kung-Fu”). She manages to save Golmarr, and get them out of the lair.
Now back to that treasure, when Sorrow killed Zhun she inhereted his “treasure” which is knowledge. From this point on Golmarr and Sorrow try to survive getting back to his Kingdom, along with avoiding being killed by the other dragons in the land. Legend is when the Fire Dragon wakes the other dragons wake too.
I loved this book, granted I always root for the Dragon; I had to root for Sorrow and Golmarr this time. The ending was heart breaking, and an awful way to leave the story for the next book.

The Dragon Price A Transference Novel The Transference Trilogy Book 1 eBook Bethany Wiggins Reviews
Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
Thanks to NetGalley and Crown Books for the opportunity to read and review The Dragon's Price by Bethany Wiggins! Sorrowlynn, Sorrow for short, is destined to die by her own hand and is awaiting the choice of a forced marriage or becoming a sacrifice for the fire dragon. Sorrowlynn meets the royalty of Andhar and is angered that she has to marry an heir from their kingdom. The young Prince Golmarr follows Sorrow when she's lowered into the dragon's cave to become the sacrifice because he wants to help her survive. Sorrow has been raised by an abusive father, her king, who whipped her violently and now she has white, puffy scars all over her legs. One of the reasons she was whipped was when Sorrow called the queen "mother", even though the queen is Sorrow's mother. She has felt completely alone and unloved her entire life except for the woman who helped take care of her. Golmarr and Sorrow live through and save each other from life threatening adventures while their relationship grows. Fantasy is my all-time favorite genre and The Dragon's Price hit the spot! The first book in the Transference series had me diving into a world with dragons and princesses, loyalty and danger, love and kingdoms. I anxiously await the sequel! 5 stars! I appreciate the acknowledgements at the end of the book because Bethany Wiggins' struggles with being backed by a publisher will give encouragement to aspiring authors everywhere.
I'm always on the lookout for a good fantasy and dragons are always interesting to me.
In The Dragon's Price, Princess Sorrowlyn of Faodara has to make a choice now that she is of age. The peace between her reign and Antharian's kingdom is at stake. Years ago, the two kingdoms were at war and one of them used a dragon as a weapon. When the dragon got out of control and before he could destroy both kingdoms, it was captured and secured in a cave. A spell keeps the dragon in the cave. It's also responsible for the Faodora kingdom to only have daughters while the Antharians heirs would all be males. When of age, the Faodora regents will offer their daughter to the Antharian heir. For the most part, the Antharian have refused the Faodora women during the ceremony.
Sorrowlyn doesn't want to marry an Antharian barbarian. She also doesn't want to stay in her kingdom. Her father hates her and he's happy to punish her when he believes she has done something he doesn't approve of. When Sorrowlyn was born a prophecy said that she would die by her own hand. Most of her life she has been nothing more than a prisoner in her own room when all she wants is her freedom.
When Sorrowlyn decides she rather give herself to the dragon than marry a barbarian, she seals her fate but not before Golmarr, Prince of Antharian, joins her in the cave.
I enjoyed The Dragon's Price. I thought it was interesting to find out what the real treasure the dragons possessed was.
The two main characters were likable. Sorrow had to leave her home for her character to develop. She had to learn how to fight and survive on her own. She also had to learn that not because Golmarr came from a different kingdom with different customs, he was truly a barbarian.
"I will follow you to the end of the world"
Golmarr was easy to adore. Once he decided to join Sorrow in the cave and he was willing to fight the dragon, he became a true hero. He was born to protect and defend yet, he treated Sorrow as his equal. He listened to her and respect her decisions.
"You make me feel things I've never felt before, and you make want things I never thought I would want."
I'm hoping we don't have to wait too long for the next book.
Cliffhanger No
3.5/5 Fangs
