I loved this book. The author was new to me, but to be honest it was the cover that caught my attention - I found it quite appealing. I was caught up almost from the first word. It was an easy quick read but filled with much more than just half a heart - though I love where that title line comes in the book. How great to have a heroine grandma . A with-it lady who uses cell phones and GPS and lets nothing stand in her way. I will certainly be looking for more from Karen McQuestion.Tags : Half a Heart [Karen McQuestion] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. From bestselling author Karen McQuestion comes a moving novel about broken hearts…and what it takes to put them back together again. At nine years of age,Karen McQuestion,Half a Heart,Lake Union Publishing,1503954668,Audiobook; Audio; Book; CD; Womens; Fiction; Chick; Lit; Humor; Funny; Romantic; Comedy,Coming Of Age,Contemporary Women,FICTION Coming of Age,FICTION Family Life General,Family Life,Fiction,FictionComing of Age,FictionWomen,FICTION Literary,FICTION Small Town & Rural,FICTION Women

The story had many threads to unravel. What was so bad that a little boy lost his voice?
As the Logan's life unfolds bit by bit, you just have to keep reading hoping for something, anything good to happen. My heart was grieved for the terrible life
He endured. Such a brave resourceful child. Sad to think that many children will suffer in some way similar to Logan.
I am glad good came his way in the end. I liked the book because it kept drawing me in.
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the welfare of children.
Logan ran away from an abusive home, he made some new friends and eventually was reunited with his grandmother. Story of a boy runaway, his survival on his own and his rescue. Very heartwarming story about an abusive parent, a lonely widow, a young couple with the dream of having a child, and a grandmother that would do what it took to find her grandson and keep him safe.
Karen McQuestion does it again. I’ve read all of her adult fiction and most of her young adult books. This is my favorite. But then I say that with each new book. She gets better and better. I fell in love with Logan in the very beginning of the book and cried through the last third of the book. Excellent characters and great story and not the ending I pictured.
HALF A HEART tells the harrowing and poignant story of a young boy who as the result of horrific circumstances finds himself on the run. Compounding the issue is that the very same situation that caused him to abandon his home, some time before, also stole his voice. Can you imagine it? A child frightened and alone, on the road by himself, with no voice? I was riveted to the page and on occasion brought to tears. I fell in love with him and with the folks he encounters on his journey. The language of this story is beautifully, and yet deceptively, simple given its complexity, and that’s what sets it apart. But that is the gift folded into the pages of all of Karen McQuestion’s books, and this is vintage McQuestion, a book you don’t want to miss. I loved it.
Karen McQuestion’s latest novel, Half a Heart, is the kind of book you want to read slowly to make it last, but have to read fast because you need to know what happens. McQuestion has a gift for developing characters. Her nine-year-old hero, Logan, will win you over with his bravery and grit as he escapes from an abusive father. Maybe he got those traits from Grandma Nan, who never gives up on rescuing him. McQuestion knows how to pace a story to keep you turning pages. I recommend Half a Heart whole-heartedly.
Half A Heart is a fast moving story of a mute 10 year old who is terribly abused by his off his rocker Father. His life is impossible and his health is threatened. The only one who can change this is him. So in an exciting adventure he runs away (literally with the father chasing him) down the city streets and hides in a moving van that takes him 3 hours away to another state. Here he has to stumble around on worn out unfitting shoes and find a way to survive. The people he meets along the way are so heartwarming. His grandmother follows clues and does her own detective work to find out what has happened to him and she and the father meet up at the end for a fiery, very physical confrontation and the end is very satisfying. The little boy learns that love can heal and help him find a way to communicate. Very heart warming.
I absolutely loved this book. I read it in one day. I couldn’t put it down. I felt every emotion of Logan’s, and Grandma Nan. I cried through most of it. It is one of those stories that pulls at your heart and calls forth so many emotions. There were so many layers to this story which gives one a lot to ponder and hopefully take actions that improves the quality if life for others. There are so many Logan’s in our world today. As a former teacher, it wasn’t hard to know who they were. May they all have a Ms. Tracey in their lives.
