The Shadow Tracer Meg Gardiner 9780525953227 Books

Meg Gardiner's eleventh novel, The Shadow Tracer, continues her mastery of thrills and adrenaline pumping suspense.

Sarah Keller, a skip tracer who has learned the ins and outs of deadbeats hiding from responsibility suddenly finds herself on the other side of her profession. She has been living in hiding for five years. Her daughter, following a routine exam at a hospital as a result of a minor accident, is discovered to have a microchip embedded in her head. Sarah instantly knows who is behind this and knows the only way to keep her daughter and herself safe is disappear.

Naturally this is easier said than done. With the knowledge that the people who want her daughter are back on the hunt, she flees with the aide of her employer, Danisha Helms (a character I'd like to see again) and a US Marshal who helped her once before, the race to escape becomes far more complicated by an obsessed FBI agent with an agenda all his own.

Ms. Gardiner sets the showdown in a thoroughly unique setting, the imagery of which would easily make the jump to the big screen and definitely have moviegoers on the edge of their seats. I recommend this novel to everyone who thrive on high speed, blood pumping energy.

The Shadow Tracer Meg Gardiner 9780525953227 Books Reviews

I have been a fan of Meg Gardiner since her first book. The Jo Beckett series is among the best in the genre. And nw the Shadow Tracer. A stand alone that is a remarkable book filled with remarkable characters and one amazing story! I would love her to write another and start a new series. A real nail biter that kept me up way past my bedtime. Could not put it down. Read this one. You will not be disappointed!
To much running and hiding this started out great then got way to weird. Even the end was strange. Th
Sarah has the perfect occupation which she'll need when the past reaches out and touch her. With learned skills, Sarah stays one step ahead of her enemies, avoiding detection at every corner in this suspenseful tale that took me on a rollercoaster ride with my heart thumping as the tension in each chapter played out. This is an adrenaline-charged riveting drama that did not pause as Sarah raced again foes and time to save both herself and her daughter's lives. A great read in this gripping tale of a mother's love will have you grasping the pages from beginning to end. Meg delivers a dynamite package of thrills and chills in this well-written novel that takes her to the pinnacle of thriller authors.
I was attracted to this book since the principal character is a "strip tracer" and I thought it might be interesting to see how they work and what resources they can summon to the task. There were a few of those insights and she, who should know better, failed to execute some of the more basic aspects of escape. While the book moves at a healthy pace, it frankly has too many characters, some good, some bad, some "who knows" and the ending gets a bit cartoonish but should make for some interesting movie scenes. As I read the story and she hurtled along with her sister's young daughter, I thought, "That kid is going to need some therapy when this is over!" Interesting as the story winds down, she is getting some. Really a borderline 4 but good enough not to knock it down a star.
I'm a big fan of Gardiner's Evan Delaney series and was hoping for another, rather than a stand-alone book. But I needed something new to read. When I started the book, Gardiner, as always, grabbed me with the opening paragraph, and it wasn't long before I was terrified for one character. Part of me wanted to put the book down, worried that the particular character would be sacrificed on an author's altar of publicity and drama. But the bigger part of me trusted Gardiner to send me out on a thrilling ride, make me hold my breath and madly flip pages, and end the story satisfied with a tale well told. The trust was well placed.
While I'm still hoping for another Evan Delaney book, I'd definitely read a sequel to this book.
On a side note, Gardiner's other books are pretty dang good, too.
Our heroine is a skip-tracer. She became one instead of traveling the world as she had originally planned when her sister died, leaving her with her niece to raise alone.

But even though she changed locations and her name she is found by the entity that killed her sister and has to run for the child's life. The child's father belonged to a family cult and wants the child.

Throughout the rest of the book she runs, is followed, makes the acquaintance of an older woman who helps her escape, but is always only one step away from being caught.

A true page turner. If "child in danger" stories are your interest, this is a good book for you. Our heroine's story comes out in bits and pieces throughout the book, the Federal Marshall who betrayed her and helped her at the same time, the woman who helps, all work to make this an intense and fulfilling read.
If you like fast action books that read like a television show, you will enjoy this book. I read the entire book and enjoyed most of it but gave it a three star rating because there were several plot points that confused me and because the characters either weren't that interesting or were caricatures (bad guys were really bad, good guys the strong silent type). This book was described as being about a woman who is living off the grid - she is not. She is definitely on the grid, using her real name, and in a highly visible and somewhat dangerous job finding people who have - guess what? Skipped out on some legal entanglement. The book started off strongly but then there were multiple jumps in time to introduce characters and their back stories - it got a bit confusing from this point on.
